This module will consist of seminars, presentations, workshops and/or master class sessions tailored for PhD students in Maynooth and/or in the wider Irish or international postgraduate research community. On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: describe the field of inquiry represented in the summer/winter school and critically engage with the ideas, concepts, theories, traditions and/or methodologies explored and evaluated in the school. Students should write a reflective journal mapping their engagement with the school, evaluating the module content in relation to their own research, and articulating their learning and its relation to their research project. This module will enable students to engage more fully with research methods and/or major critical and theoretical frameworks relating to research in education. Student will demonstrate their engagement with the school by developing a comprehensive reflective journal and portfolio, documenting their learning and relating the content of the school to their own research projects. Students will be able to critically evaluate the content of the school and the approaches as well as relating their encounter with this new knowledge to their own research. The research journal should be commenced prior to the school, and map expectations and hopes, and should be completed with a comprehensive set of critical reflections on the learning and experience of the school.
