	Overview
	In this module participants will be expected to engage with key concepts, theories, literature and practical understanding of school development and its many facets. Central to this is the cultivation of fruitful and positive relationships which will enhance the community of the school. The role of the leader in these endeavours is critical and central, and this module will give opportunities to participants to consider and engage with a �real-life� learning situation where they are asked to �audit� communication systems in their own school. The management of this process and resultant learning has application for the leadership role in participants� schools as they begin to engage with colleagues in the completion of leadership tasks and in their future work.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Understand the critical nature of school culture and its influence on shaping school life. Interrogate the core elements of leading a school which has successful communication systems in place. Understand how to build such systems and how to ensure that a collaborative and inclusive process is used in doing so. Engage with the developmental learning required in the building of healthy school cultures which facilitate and nurture positive relationships between all members of the community. Interrogate and understand the nature of conflicts within the school community as they arise and consider the nature of �difficult conversations� and resolutions to these issues for all. Understand the theories relating to change processes and have an awareness of how to navigate these while still ensuring that the school community is in support. Engage with and understand evaluative processes for the school and in the Irish context, while also considering the wider international context as applicable. Interrogate and critique true distributed leadership and understand how it differs from delegation in positively building a cadre of leaders for the school. Understand the concepts of how meaningful partnerships are cultivated with stakeholders leading to a positive and healthy teaching, learning and work environment.
