	The module explores the role of education in contemporary society, examining the equality and policy context that structures educational systems and practices. We use equality theories, policy and practices to critically reflect on a range of social, political and cultural issues in education. Key themes explored include experiences of gender, class, ethnicity, disability, disadvantage and care in educational systems and practices.

	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Critically engage with the range of equality and diversity concepts, theories and research in education Apply these theories and research to a critical reflection of their own professional experiences of educational practice and policy.
