Introduction to advanced topics in Labour Supply, Labour Demand, Wage Determination and Unemployment. Labour supply topics may include the effect of fixed costs of working, household membership and non-linear budget constraints on the neoclassical labour supply model. Labour demand topics can include the effect of work-sharing and of the minimum wage on employment. Wage determination topics include returns to education, efficiency wage models and compensating wage differentials. Topics in unemployment may include the natural rate of unemployment, hysteresis and the effects of active labour market policies on unemployment. Empirical methods used in the applied literature on these topics will also be covered.
