• Explain key concepts used in the economic analysis of money and banking, especially those relating to the structure of interest rates, financial market structure and regulation, and the management of financial intermediaries.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the factors that determine the term and risk structure of interest rates.
• Use economic theory to analyse the structure of financial markets and the role played by financial intermediaries in the economy.
• Identify the principal areas of concern in the management of banks and the tradeoffs that exist within and between these areas.
• Display an understanding of the need for regulation of financial markets and of the principal forms of regulation.
• Discuss the origins and dynamics of financial crises and how governments have responded to such crises.
• Explain the principles and practice of central banking as performed by the major central banks in the world.
