• evaluate the main features of contemporary community work and youth work policy and practice in Ireland
• critically engage with debates on community work and youth work professional identify and future direction in the context of emerging policy
• critically evaluate current debates in relation to frameworks for quality, accountability, outcomes, impact and other emerging mechanisms
• articulate key aspects of a range of theoretical models of community work and youth work including a consideration of their implications for practice
• demonstrate a critical understanding of the key theories, principles, processes and methods in organisation and management, and of how these apply in practice settings emphasing leadership and strategic capacities
• examine the equality, human rights and social justice focus of community work and youth work practice in a changing political and policy context
• articulate community work and youth work values into practice in professional relationships including a consideration of the boundaries of ethical practice in relation to their role as practitioner

• The module will combine a stimulating mix of learning and teaching activities including as appropriate small group work, lectures, presentations, visits, role-play, directed reading, self directed learning and e-learning

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Modules are assessed by a variety of continuous assessment modes including essays, assignments, journals and other written assessments, individual and group presentations, projects, quizzes and multiple choice assignments etc.

• Pass standard: 40%
• Could the result of this module be capped? No
• Full attendance is required at every scheduled class. Penalties will be applied if attendance falls below 80%. Each assessment component of this module must be passed independently, therefore no compensation is allowed between components.
