On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

evaluate the main features of contemporary community work and youth work policy and practice in Ireland

critically engage with debates on community work and youth work professional identify and future direction in the context of emerging policy

critically evaluate current debates in relation to frameworks for quality, accountability, outcomes, impact and other emerging mechanisms

articulate key aspects of a range of theoretical models of community work and youth work including a consideration of their implications for practice

demonstrate a critical understanding of the key theories, principles, processes and methods in organisation and management, and of how these apply in practice settings emphasing leadership and strategic capacities

examine the equality, human rights and social justice focus of community work and youth work practice in a changing political and policy context

articulate community work and youth work values into practice in professional relationships including a consideration of the boundaries of ethical practice in relation to their role as practitioner
