There is a minimum requirement of six months work placement. However, many companies only offer 11- or 12-month placement options. Placements commence from May onwards. Students are placed in a variety of companies. Students can apply for a placement position through the University Industrial Placement Office. The host company screens applicants and selected candidates are invited for interview. All those chosen for interview must attend. Successful candidates are offered a fixed term work contract and non-disclosure agreement. All communication with the host company prior to the student commencing work there is via the industrial placement office. Students may also arrange their own placement and in this instance a job description, company details, contact name of the line-manager and human resources manager must be supplied to the Industrial Placement Office before the student can be allowed to take up their position. The Industrial Placement Office is available to students throughout the year both before and during placement and will assist with visa renewal, interview preparation, CV preparation etc.
