Module ETHICAL IMPLICATIONS OF HUMAN-COMPUTER INTERACTION

Module code: CS439
Credits: 5
Semester: 2
Department: COMPUTER SCIENCE
International: No
Overview Overview

Students will engage with key ethical questions about technology, data, and interaction in current social contexts, such as (i) the ethical considerations when developing requirements with and conducting studies with users (ii) how a filter bubble can affect peoples’ belonging to a social group or a democratic discourse (iii) how the Internet affects the relationship between memory and forgetting and if we have a right to be forgotten (iv) how bias in data can lead to biased algorithms or machines. Case studies, informed by such themes, will be presented and discussed in groups with the goal for students to make ethical and socially inclusive decisions for technology, interface, and interaction design.
