Module CRITICAL SKILLS PROJECT (COMPUTER SCIENCE)

Module code: CS183FZ
Credits: 7.5
Semester: 2
Department: INTERNATIONAL ENGINEERING COLLEGE
International: No
Overview Overview

This is a group project module. The application area of project is dependent on the program, having either an (a) Software Engineering or (b) Multimedia, Mobile and Web focus. It is intended that the project will develop a range of skills from analysis, to critical thinking, collaboration, and academic writing. It initially focuses on problem-solving through an analysis of the agreed project requirements, leading to system design, followed by group programming and testing. This will enhance their skills of logic, computational problem solving, and implementation. This is realised through regular supervised laboratory work that must be carried out together. The emphasis throughout the labs is on producing programs in an organised fashion informed by a software engineering where communication among the team members will be essential to running of the project. Additionally, through group meetings, team members will evaluate the evolving project, critically assess its progress, and make decisions. This interactivity will be measured as part of the module evaluation. At stages during the project there will be assessed formal presentations to the class cohort. At the close of the project the group will be required to submit their code archive and a written report that must include testing, evaluation results, and a reflective analysis on the data generated and the project outcomes.
Project organisation fundamentals, coding skills, analysis & use of data, group interaction and effective communications training, presentation skills, academic writing
