Module Objectives: To support a critical analysis of education's role as a force for social justice and equality, reviewing the context of Irish education Develop an understanding of the social, egalitarian and political context of Irish education; Introduce learners to theories of education, social justice and equality
Module Content: Paying for education, gender and multiculturalism in education, diversity and framing of disability in Irish education, the impacts of inequalities on the lives of children and young people, religion and sexuality in Irish education, the persistence of disadvantage in Irish education. 	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Develop a deeper critical reflection about the equality implications of education. Understand the impact of social disadvantage on educational participation and achievement. Critically analyse the role of education as a force for social justice; for fostering equality, diversity, interculturalism, and inclusion in society. Deconstruct socially constructed concepts of othering, their impact on equality in education, and on personal experiences of students. Have knowledge of Irish policy and current discourses in relation to equality and inclusion through education.
