Module CLIMATE CHANGE: THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS FOR COMMUNITY AND LOCALITY.

Module code: CM67
Credits: 5
Semester: 2
Department: GEOGRAPHY
International: No
Overview Overview

Of all the contemporary issues that face humanity in a rapidly changing world, climate change is arguably one of the most critical. Global climate is expected to change more radically than at any time over the past several thousand years, with consequent effects that are anticipated to impact significantly upon the way the global community lives and works. This module addresses several areas of key concern for Ireland. It examines: the causes of climate change, both natural and enhanced; potential impacts on landscape, both urban and rural; flooding issues on a national and local scale; and political issues, such as the USA's potential withdrawal from current climate change agreements. In addition, options to mitigate for and adapt to future global warming will be investigated, as well as sustainable alternatives that could address present and future societal challenges.
