Module ELECTROANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY-MODERN TECHNIQUES AND APPLICATIONS

Module code: BI862
Credits: 2.5
Semester: 2
Department: BIOLOGY
International: No
Overview Overview

This course will introduce the student to electroanalytical methodology, techniques and applications. Topics covered will include:
• Introduction to electrochemical principles.
• Electrochemical cells and electrodes.
• Criteria for the design of electroanalytical experiments.
• Instrumentation and data acquisition - potentiostats and computer-based
interface systems.
• Electrochemical techniques.
• Sensors and biosensors.
• Materials and surface analysis.
• Microelectrode arrays and nanomaterials for biomedical analysis.
• Modelling of transport and kinetic processes in immobilised nanostructures
(monolayers, electroactive polymers and carbon nanotube arrays/meshes)
containing biomolecules/biocatalysts.
• Modern applications of electroanalytical chemistry – preclinical and clinical
analysis of brain chemistry (neurochemistry).

The module will also include presentation of research posters, demonstrations of techniques and workshops.
