• The module is built around the departmental Postgraduate Research Seminar Series, where postgraduate students present and discuss their research in a wide range of Biological subjects. Students are expected to actively participate in the Seminar Series, by presenting their own research, chairing sessions and participating in Q&A sessions. An attendance level of 70% is required across two semesters to qualify for credits. Students will receive feedback on their research and research communication from peers and academic staff. Students are expected to engage in a reflective process based on this feedback.

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): The module is evaluated on a pass/fail basis. 70% attendance of seminars across semester 1 and 2 is strictly required to pass. The following assessment components have to be fulfilled and will be evaluated: 1. Research seminar presentation and responses to questions 2. Reflective writing piece based on the Q&A and feedback received after the student’s seminar presentation. This should also include elements of a research plan (500 words). 3. Acting as chair for a separate seminar session, asking at least one question of each speaker. 4. ‘Journal Club’ seminar presentation on a paper related to the student’s area of research (and/or of broad interest to Biologists) and submission of a written critical evaluation of the paper (500-1000 words).
