• Explain how genes and the environment interact during development to influence the expressed behavioural phenotype.
• Discuss the role of natural selection in the evolution of animal behaviour.
• Describe the various ways in which animals learn.
• Explain the physiological basis of motivation.
• Explain how animals communicate, avoid being eaten by predators, and find their way while migrating or homing.
• Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of living in groups.
• Describe how animals respond to environmental variables such as temperature and water availability.
