• Describe the structure and characteristics of the 10 terrestrial biomes and their distribution relative to global atmospheric weather cells.
• Explain the principles of vegetation succession and the role of disturbance in the process.
• Discuss the role of competition in natural selection as elucidated by Darwin.
• Describe the Lotka-Volterra model of competitive interaction between individuals and populations, including the role of the K carrying capacity of the environment.
• Compare and contrast the mechanisms and outcomes of intra- and inter-specific competition.
• Explain the antagonistic but mutually beneficial nature of predator-prey relationships.

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Multiple Choice Questionnaire 7.5% Lab-based practical write-ups 7.5% Field-trip participation and questionnaire 15%

• Forty percent overall with minimum thirty percent in written exam and forty percent in continuous assessment.
