The objective of this module is to provide a rigorous but supportive environment for students to write up their thesis in a timely fashion and obtain peer review of their writing. For each seminar, students share a chapter they are working on, which is read and critiqued by. A staff mentor overseas the process and may be present to contribute challenging questions, but the seminar is expected to be student-driven. Issues to be considered in discussions include the craft of ethnographic writing, descriptively integrating primary data into an academic argument; learning writing through reading; ethnographic genres; audiences; ethnographic authority and issues of representation.
