In as much as globalisation has broadened the horizons of peace and freedom, it has also unleashed a storm of uncertainty that is often reflected in horrendous levels of violence as in the case of Rwanda and Sudan/Darfur. The Module challenges the assumed primordiality of conflict and violence in modern Rwanda and Sudan as indeed across the world. Instead it approaches peace and conflict in these cultures as intricately connected with ideals of certainty, identity and legitimacy for resources. While the pursuit of these ideals can be expressed locally, the forces that frame them are globally anchored.
