This module introduces students to anthropological perspectives on, and engagements with, the world of international development. The aim is to familiarise students with a broad range of anthropological literature on development, from 'post-development' critiques that reject development interventions outright, to anthropological practitioner critiques from inside the development apparatus. Students will gain a historical perspective on global political economy and the interactions between 'developed' and 'developing' regions of the world, and will be encouraged to consider their own position within these ongoing interactions.
