• Be conversant in filmmaking and photography techniques and discuss the utility of visual methods in the production of anthropological knowledge.
• Demonstrate an informed understanding of the elements of ethnographic film production such as how to plan, research, storyboard, project manage and produce an ethnographic film shoot, including negotiating access and consent with gatekeepers.
• Exhibit awareness and ability to use filmmaking and photographic equipment, control sound and light and use editing software to efficiently create short films whilst showing awareness of the decisions and biases implicit to editorial decision making.
• Critically discuss the history and major ‘turns’ within visual anthropology, including approaches and challenges around representation.

• This module will take place as a week-long intensive workshop (in September 2021 before the official start of term) with follow up seminars during Semester 1.

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): 100% continuous assessment, equivalent to 4,000 words (based on practical work as well as written work).
