	Overview
	This module takes up and deals with all the controversial and �messy� parts of the economy that formal economics sets aside. Tough questions are posed about human nature, power and social life. Students will read in detail about the economic lives of people in many different kinds of societies, and about the major issues of poverty and development that shape the world. Economic anthropology is directly concerned with the most central anthropological issues of human nature, choice, values, and morality. This course gives students a solid basis for thinking about the different ways we explain human behaviour, thought, and culture and provides a foundation for applying anthropological knowledge to real-world situations.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: feel confident in her/his knowledge and understanding of anthropological approaches to economic practices, have improved her/his skills in critical reading and thinking, and be able to apply anthropological knowledge to real-world situations.

Assessment

	Autumn Supplementals/Resits
	Autumn repeat students may submit continuous assessment work by a date before the Autumn examination, which will be specified by the department. Students are responsible for familiarising themselves with this deadline. If students do not submit by the deadline, the existing continuous assessment mark will be carried forward to the Autumn. No continuous assessment work will be accepted after this date. The maximum mark awarded to a piece of continuous assessment submitted for the Autumn repeat examinations is 50%. This will apply except upon presentation of a medical certificate covering the relevant period or in other circumstances, which must be communicated to the department prior to or immediately after the relevant deadline.
