The aim of the English Literature module is to allow students to explore a wide range of Irish and international literature and to provide them with some of the theories and critical tools necessary for literary analysis. It equips students to read a variety of sorts of writing. It is concerned with narrative forms and techniques and their function in identity formation from the early twentieth century to today, including Irish drama, fiction, picture books and young-adult fiction. The module will provide a good overall grounding in English Literature, and it affords transferable analytic skills and the pleasures of reading literary texts they might not otherwise encounter.
