This is the first of two modules that provides an opportunity for students to develop their practical teaching/facilitation skills and to become familiar with the culture and operation of Further Education settings. This can include within Further Education Colleges, accredited community education, prison education, Youthreach settings, Private providers, or any setting that uses FE accredited awards.
Over two modules (Teaching Practice 1 and Teaching Practice 2) students will accumulate 30 hours observation and 100 hours teaching practice. This is in collaboration with a designated co-operating teacher within the placement setting and under the supervision of Maynooth University. During the course of the teaching practice placement students will engage in professional practice, apply ethical processes, engage actively with the supervision and mentoring process and model reflective practice.
Students will incorporate and integrate theory and practice, plan for and undertake group teaching, undertake learning assessment using a wide range of strategies, develop organisational skills in the teaching setting, observe experienced teachers teaching and be involved in a wide range of activities. Students will reflect critically on their practice, receive and respond to feedback on their practice, seek and receive advice and guidance from their supervision team in a supportive environment.
A minimum of 80% attendance is required and active participation is expected in this module.
