This module will provide an introduction to the aims and learning outcomes of the Higher Diploma in Further Education (MHA90). It will introduce some of the principles of groupwork and begin a discussion about the essential pedagogical skills for successful teaching practice.. The teaching practice supervision and mentoring processes will be explained, and students’ expectations for teaching practice support will be explored. This module will also identify some of the key supports and resources available to students.

This module is delivered over two/three days prior to the first week of the first semester (Orientation week). Students will be required carry out 30 hours of teaching observation to explore learning methods in a range of settings as part of this module prior to the module assessment.

A minimum of eighty per cent attendance is required and active participation is expected in this module
