The module chronologically studies the key historical landmarks and resulting policies in the evolution of the Irish education system critically engaging with a broad range of pertinent commission reports, policy statements and policy/legislative documents. The module addresses the impact of the EU, the OECD/UN, NGO (Non-Governmental Organisations), and citizens’ movements in the development of education policy.

This module will assist students to reflect critically on the adult, community and policy making process and to locate that process within the Irish public policy system. In particular the module will address FET (Further Education and Training) policy including SOLAS, QQI, contemporary policy issues in further education (including European and UN initiatives), and current legislative requirements in the delivery of further education and training.

A minimum of eighty per cent attendance is required and active participation is expected in this module
